Inspired by the poison-maker Giulia Tofana from 1630: we invented her personal back story. "Aqua Tofana" was a strong poison that was reputedly widely used in Italy. It is associated with Giulia Tofana, purportedly the leader of a ring of six poisoners in Rome, who sold Aqua Tofana to would-be widows. These women who ordered Giulias poison had a reason to end their husbands life: divorce was not appropriate back then and abuse was most likely not unusual.
